Why Almond Butter?
I chose almond butter for this strawberry banana bagel because it packs a healthy punch. It is loaded with good Omega-3 fatty acids, monounsaturated fats – which lower your LDL cholesterol (“bad” cholesterol), and has a good amount of protein. Almond butter is very easy to find nowadays; most grocers carry it.
When purchasing Almond Butter, and any nut butter, beware of added sugars. Many manufacturers will sneak in additives like sugar or hydrogenated oils, for what? Don’t buy it! We don’t need those kind of extras in our lives. Almond butter is literally just almonds that have been ground down into a butter. For this reason, the only ingredients listed on your almond butter jar should be almonds or roasted almonds.
Make your own Almond Butter
If you have a decent food processor or Vitamix, you can easily make your own almond butter. It will save you some money, it’s just a bit messier and time consuming than purchasing a jar. Here is a recipe that is great if you decide to go this route.
If you want to go store bought, Costco’s Kirkland brand is the cheapest I’ve found. Their only ingredient is roasted almonds. Simple. Easy. Done. Otherwise, Trader Joe’s is always a good place to look, and, of course, Amazon.
How long will this Strawberry Banana Bagel take to prepare?
One of the great things about this strawberry banana bagel is that it’s quick and easy! The only cooking involved is popping the bagel thin into your toaster. If you know you’ll be in a hurry in the morning, you can pre-slice the fruit the night before. Otherwise, the toaster will need about 5 minutes, and the rest of the prep will be about 5 minutes.
